From Injury to Triumph: How the Zen Vibrapoint Could Help Devon Larratt's Arm Wrestling Comeback
Posted by Jeff Howard on 26th Apr 2023
Devon Larratt is widely considered to be one of the best arm wrestlers of all time, and is arguably the #1 ranked arm-wrestler in North America. His first opponent was his grandmother, a farmworker who claimed to be "the best arm-wrestling woman in Alberta." From there, he progressed to competing on the oil fields of western Canada and in the Special Forces. Larratt is known as both an extremely versatile and enduring armwrestler. Devon has one of the sports highest table IQ's, and can execute any move whether it be a hook, toproll, press, king's move, or any variation thereof. His contribution in popularizing the sport to a wider audience was achieved through his countless collaborations with others, his YouTube Channel and simply his domination of the sport.
Ottawa’s Devon Larratt is well known as a highly skilled and experienced arm wrestler who has won numerous titles in his career. One look at
Devon Larratt’s incredibly large biceps and you might mistake him for a superhero. While he’s not a superhero, he is a world champion with a story that is anything but ordinary. His climb to the top involved multiple surgeries, intensive rehab, and sheer determination. He has competed at the world level and has performed extremely well in the past. Whether or not he will win the world arm wrestling title in the future will depend on various factors such as his training, the competition, recovery from injuries and other variables. Could the use of the Zen VIBRAPOINT TOOL help Devon restore the post recovery strength to his world championship winning right arm? In this article we take a look into the concepts behind the application of this game changing tool.
Like many athletes, Devon Larratt has suffered injuries that put his dreams and career in jeopardy. Armwrestling is incredibly demanding on tendons and joints. Years of trauma caused by armwrestling led to the development of osteoarthritis, with extra bone build up in his elbows.
“Both my left and right elbow joints were degraded to a point where I was in constant pain,” remembers Devon. Increased pressure in the elbow joints from abnormal mechanics while armwrestling led to a build up of extra bone in areas it shouldn’t grow. Devon was unaware this abnormal bone was breaking apart, creating loose fragments in his joints.
At the same time, Devon’s arthritis caused chronic inflammation between his elbow joint bones, eroding the cartilage in the joint and causing friction between the elbow bones. This not only caused him significant pain but it also greatly impacted his range of motion.
Devon’s treatment would involve
three surgeries: two operations in his right elbow and one in his left. Due to the nature of his work as an armwrestler and in the military, the surgical team made use of a specialized technique – elbow arthroscopy, a minimally invasive surgery.
After Devon’s surgeries, rehabilitation was his next focus. “I treated rehab like preparation for any other event. This, combined with the incredible work of my surgery team, helped me get back to competing less than a year later,” said Devon.
Just eleven months after undergoing three surgeries on his arms at The Ottawa Hospital, Devon was back on top – a champion once again.
This championship reign would come to an abrupt end in June of 2022 when Larratt was injured with a bicep tear against long time rival Levan Saginashvili during what was known as “The Greatest Arm Wrestling Match In History”. The master of rehab was able to immediately get to work on healing after the match and was able to return to competition in November of the same year.
It is possible that Devon Larratt's recovery from a torn bicep will remain a factor in his ability to win the title this year. A torn bicep can take a significant amount of time to heal, and the recovery process can be challenging, requiring physical therapy and rehabilitation. Depending on the severity of the injury and the success of the recovery process, it may affect his strength and overall arm wrestling performance. However, we know Larratt has fully committed to the rehabilitation of the injured arm. There is a very good chance this high level athlete may be able to return to performing at a high level and compete for the world arm wrestling title for years to come.
With Devon Larratt's history of injuries and surgeries, it's important to explore all possible avenues for his recovery and continued success in armwrestling. One tool that could potentially aid in his recovery is the
Zen VIBRAPOINTa game-changing tool that uses vibration therapy to promote healing and reduce pain.
The Vibrapoint is a handheld device that delivers targeted vibration therapy to specific areas of the body. It has been used in a variety of sports and rehabilitation settings to help athletes recover from injuries and improve their performance. The device works by sending directed vibrations deep into the muscle tissue, which can increase blood flow and promote the healing process.
For armwrestlers like Devon Larratt, the Vibrapoint could be a valuable tool in promoting healing and reducing pain in the arms and elbows. The device could be used during rehabilitation exercises and physical therapy sessions to help speed up the recovery process and increase range of motion in the affected joints.
In addition to its use in recovery, the Vibrapoint could also potentially improve Devon's performance on the armwrestling table. By using the device to warm up and prepare his muscles before a match, Devon could potentially increase his strength and endurance, giving him an edge over his opponents.
Of course, it's important to note that the Vibrapoint is just one tool among many that Devon Larratt could use in his recovery and training. Ultimately, his success will depend on a combination of factors, including his dedication to his rehabilitation program, his training regimen, and his ability to adapt to new challenges and opponents.
Nevertheless, the Vibrapoint could be a valuable addition to Devon's arsenal as he continues to compete at the highest level of armwrestling. Its unique combination of targeted vibration therapy and portability make it an attractive option for athletes looking to improve their performance and recover from injuries quickly and effectively.
So how could the Vibrapoint tool by Zen singing bowls be used to help Devon regain his place in the hall of champions?
The
Zen VibraPoint Tool is a handheld device that utilizes focused vibration therapy to provide targeted pressure and massage to specific areas of the body. Acupressure techniques can also be used with the VibraPoint Tool to stimulate specific acupoints on the body.
With any muscle tear or tendon damage, the bodies ability to repair damaged tissue is going to be affected by the ability to maintain blood flow to the region. The flow of blood plays a crucial role in the body's ability to heal from a torn muscle or tendon. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the injured area, which are essential for tissue repair and regeneration. Without adequate blood flow, the healing process can be delayed or even prevented.
When a muscle or tendon is torn, the body responds by initiating an inflammatory response to remove damaged tissue and stimulate the repair process. Blood vessels in the affected area dilate, increasing blood flow to the injured site. This increased blood flow delivers immune cells, growth factors, and other molecules that are necessary for tissue repair.
If blood flow is impaired, the healing process may be compromised. For example, if there is damage to the blood vessels in the injured area, or if there is poor circulation due to a medical condition such as peripheral artery disease, the body may not be able to deliver enough oxygen and nutrients to support the healing process. In severe cases, impaired blood flow can lead to tissue death and necrosis.
The flow of blood is essential for the body's ability to heal from a torn muscle or tendon. It is crucial to ensure proper blood flow to the injured area to support the healing process and prevent complications.
The Zen Vibrapoint tool is an excellent device for use in an acupressure based modality. Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves applying pressure to specific points on the body to stimulate healing and improve health. Acupressure can increase blood flow to a damaged muscle in several ways:
Relaxation: Acupressure can promote relaxation, which can help to dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow to the injured area. When the body is relaxed, the sympathetic nervous system is less active, which can lead to a reduction in muscle tension and an increase in blood flow.
Stimulation of acupressure points: Specific acupressure points are known to increase blood flow to certain areas of the body. By applying pressure to these points, the flow of blood to the damaged muscle can be increased, promoting healing and reducing pain.
Release of endorphins: Acupressure can stimulate the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers that can reduce pain and inflammation in the injured area. Endorphins can also dilate blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the injured muscle.
Improvement in Qi flow: According to traditional Chinese medicine, the body has a vital energy called Qi that flows through the body. If this energy flow is blocked, it can lead to pain and disease. Acupressure can help to improve the flow of Qi to the injured muscle, which can promote healing and reduce pain.
Acupressure can be an effective complementary therapy to promote blood flow to a damaged muscle. Note: The Vibrapoint tool is never placed on any area of inflammation. The gentle compressions and vibrations are able to be applied near the painful region and not directly on it, preventing further damage from occurring.
To facilitate healing and recovery, Devon’s body would benefit from increased blood flow to the injured region. To improve blood flow to a specific area, such as Devon Larratt's torn muscle or rebuilt elbows, the VibraPoint Tool can be used in the following way:
Identify the acupoints related to blood circulation in the area. One such point near the elbow is LI11, also known as Quchi, located on the outer crease of the elbow.
Activate by striking the VibraPoint Tool and apply gently to create the desired pressure using the weight of the tool alone.
With the VibraPoint Tool directly on the acupoint, such as LI11, and apply gentle strikes to continue the vibration.
Hold the VibraPoint Tool on the acupoint for 1-2 minutes, gradually increasing and decreasing the tools resting pressure and while maintaining the vibration.
Move the VibraPoint Tool to other acupoints in the area, such as LU5 and PC3, which are also related to blood circulation in the arm and elbow.
Repeat the process for several minutes, gradually adjusting the vibration intensity as tolerated.
Devon Larratt is a highly skilled and experienced arm wrestler who has faced numerous challenges throughout his career, including injuries and surgeries. Despite these obstacles, he has always found a way to come back stronger and has become one of the best arm wrestlers in history. While his recent bicep tear may affect his ability to win the world arm wrestling title this year, his commitment to rehabilitation gives hope for his future performance. One tool that could potentially aid in his recovery and continued success is the Zen Vibrapoint, which uses targeted vibration therapy to promote healing and reduce pain. The device could be valuable for armwrestlers like Devon, both in their rehabilitation and during training to potentially improve their performance. Ultimately, his success will depend on a combination of factors, but his determination and willingness to explore new avenues of recovery will continue to inspire and motivate others in the sport.
It's important to note that acupressure techniques should not replace medical treatment, especially for injuries or conditions that require professional medical attention. Therefore, it's recommended to consult with a licensed acupuncturist or medical practitioner before attempting acupressure techniques with the VibraPoint Tool or any other tool.
